EPC Collaborative Poem #2

Beyond the paths of childlike instinct naive
Are caves wherein one may believe
The burden of ages and self was conceived.
Beneath the wet and crystalline eye of youth
Are mirrors black and polished smooth
That turn light inward on the spirit unloosed.

She trips up the stairs, lust shining from her face,
and greets in her bed sweet husband, the lucky heir to her flesh.

and for weeks on end I
sit like a knife in

our trouble to be born
(gwf)

And what of the last things?
Who will contemplate them when
our world comes to a close?
Who will make the final circuit,
locking the door
dousing the lamp
kissing the childern goodnight?

Imagine hidden rooms in the body.
Open a door.
Here is a room full of tenderness
like the opening of a hand
during prayer.

Standing in the center
Water soaking through concentrated cloth
Cool to the touch; gazing upwards
Trickling down upon my face
Reaching inward; grasping outward
Yearning and dicovering with every iradescent drop.

the lamented sap, flowing ever so graciously from the pine,
shifting and moving in six directions.
i tip my glass and toast to to the tree,
the blood spils on the carpet.
ever so sweetly, it glistens in the sunlight,
its pearly amber glow,
overcomes the light and attracts insects.

Slow to the centre where the Phoenix calls
To the null point of time,
Through all the ways that the world recalls
Where the doubts and the creeds combine.

Sweat bee bonanza and the richmay have their air conditioners
a solace comes from infesting the honesty of summer's blunt turn
we wake at 3am because sleep's out of the question
in this real heat they've pampered themselves out of
we've confronted our ugliness
we've found an escape beyond bitterness
we've tasted outlaw love
and our windows
aren't rolled up
and shut tight.

Once,
when the sun cast a golden hue
upon a single tree out in the front yard,
its rays gently cradling the branches
and limbs with a lover's touch,
I looked next to the tree that enjoyed
the blessing of the sunset,
and I saw you standing there,
smiling at me through the storm door,
leaning against the tree and laughing
in that little way that never ceased to
cause my heart to sigh and swell with adoration
for the only one I could ever love.

Once,
when I sat upon the shore,
the golden sand warm and moist against my feet,
and I watched as the waves would crash and tumble,
climbing just a little farther up the land each time,
I heard your voice,
the way you used to tell me that you cared,
though never in those words,
with that same little laugh followed by that
same perfect smile,
and I turned and saw you sore through the sky,
a bird in a flight of grandeur,
disappearing behind the horizon like a dream.

Once,
I saw you, not in imagery, not in nature,
but in form, standing before me,
open and honest in your beauty, in my world.
I felt your pain close to my heart,
your smiling face holding a secret wound.

Once I almost had you.

only the flame dancing between us

On wings such things as visions fly,
Caressing the face of fear,
But as we sit and ponder "Why?",
We forget to shed our tears.
So mortals fall beneath it all ,
The weight of ancient sins,
We await the day a lonely heart calls,
To rise back up again.
Just once when asked to complete a task,
I wish Zuess would have followed through,
Recently I figured out,
He knew not what to do.
No more gods on Mount Olympus,
Their time has come and gone.
For now the world of common man,
Worships chips of silicone.
All hail to the Web . . .
We kneel to thee.

cobra vida.
Y ahora me detengo
mientras una fiesta inicia por fuera
en un ingrßvido, sideral
olvido.
He desaparecido para siempre
y las estrellas fueron mi ”ltimo cobijo.
Besaron con luz el polvo que soy
y me despojaron del sufrimiento de estar muriendo
en medio de la nada oscura.
Mientras mariposas y colibries cantan al alba.

As the juniper blossoms waved to each passing breeze,
As the sunlight played hide-and-seek with the shade;

Staring at the sky and looking at the shapes the clouds made.

you drop me off, yeah i'm pissed
like you don't stop your mouth and the moment i exert
you cry foul
so off you go this quiet after the storm
and the streets lined with left-over erin
and me, i'm dying to get back here
you knew it. you seen it comin.
and now that it's a perfect ecape hatch out of the storm
you resent it more than ever
and so you say, "i'm outta here"
and gladly i hand over the keys
honey, where i'm goin in don't cost no gas
and i bet i get lost faster than you
and you sense it strong and tell me you'll call
and what would be a good time?
so even as you leave me alone to my wanderings
you want to set a limit, you want to yank some leash.
well, too damn bad kid. i'm outta here
hikin aroun lookin for my graffitti wall.
and this looks like another good place to come in outta the rain
but someday, sweets, i'll have me that wall
and you can come and find me together with my friends
sayin the so right out in the open
unrehersed, unhaggled, unstrut, unprogrammed, and totally unmanageable
and unprepared
and maybe you won't even recognize me
cause by then i'll be somewhere else in this plasma
check it out kid: it's even bigger than you
and that's what you resent the most
i'm gone

and so it goes and turns back upon itself,
something taken down, examined, wiped clean,
put back, reshelfed, forgotten until
the next time when it comes time again
to revisit what once was known
and consciously forgotten, the smell of fruit,
the sound of a baby in another room crying,
the rustle of a sparrow's wing or how the wind
itself winds itself around our ears and we can't hear
anything other than our solitude and its roaring noise
and the children in the street, preadolescent girls and boys,
innocence framed by air, vanish
and are no longer there.

"Crimson Vase"

"Crimson Vase
your primrose fades,
there is dust upon the shelving.
The spider climbs
along your side,
and who knows just why he is delving."
The friends, indeed, for lonely flowers
are only but a few,
'cause no one cares for a crimson vase,
though beauty lies in you.
"Time has wrought no harm or shame
upon your reddish tone,
but what has made your glory shine
was forgotten,
left alone."
"Crimson vase
I knew you well,
you were brought here with caress.
They made you shine
'cause your flowers gave hope
to the soul so lost in sadness."
"But the friends you have for those lonely flowers
are now only but a few.
Oh, Crimson Vase
what unfair fate
that now no one cares for you!"

A swarm of insects in the swell
of the city,
moving in transit at all times
from sunrise to sunset, these bodily
heavens are in motion.
Trainride, cars commute through the grey
twisted highway,
these dim wakes of progress, eternal
movements from moments....
(A.H.)

so it now comes down to this:
the sunlight melts away and the dark night comes
and the firghtened children shelter under
their mothers' skirts, the bright neon lights,
the mercury vapor streetlamps designed to keep away
those things no one can ever see until
the final moment comes and words fail us.
it is here we hide, thinking we are safe
though deaf, dumb and blind is more like it,
seeking to remain covered as we were once as children
and find in the buzzing of the bees and the colors of
the monarch butterflies, the meanings of life
distrusting that the dark corners where all lessons loom
take over when night comes and the sun succumbs
and the moon rises silently, resplendent
in all of its vanity.
