Some Critical Writing seminars carry on long after the final portfolios have been turned in. In Fall 2011, Samantha Swee Merritt was a student in Michelle Taransky's Fall 2011 Critical Writing Seminar, "What Else Can Poetry Do?," a course about "uncreative" and conceptual poetry writing. Two years later, Merritt teamed up with Taransky and Professor David Comberg on an independent study project to produce "Pattern," a poetic writing assistant inspired by some of the themes of her writing seminar.
