Teaching Writing Will Make You a Better Historian

Historian Sara Byala, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Critical Writing Program, recently gave a talk in the History department at Penn titled "How Teaching Writing Will Make You a Better Historian."

Dr. Byala's first book, A Place that Matters Yet: John Gubbins's MuseumAfrica in the Postcolonial World (University of Chicago Press, 2013) uses the largely unknown history of Museum Africa, in Johannesburg, South Africa as a case study to explore larger questions of culture in post-apartheid and postcolonial contexts.
