Philadelphia Inquirer

If you are passionate about current events and articulate when writing about them, this is the internship for you.

In this 10-week internship, you will be treated like a staffer and be part of the Inquirer's editorial board, which is a 10-person staff (including two Pulitzer Prize winners) that handles the daily editorial and op-ed pages, and Sunday Currents section. The main job duty would be to contribute to their editorial blog, called Say What? This is a fairly new venture that they want to grow. As the intern, you will have plenty of opportunities to have a major impact on shaping the blog. Unsigned editorials are posted on the blog along with some short daily commentaries. You will write blog posts and pull together links to smart ideas from other media. You will also be free to pitch ideas and write unsigned editorials and byline op-ed pieces for the print edition. In addition, you will participate in on the editorial board discussions in which topics are identified and cases are made for what position to take on the issues. You will also sit in on interviews with a wide range of guests who come to pitch the board on issues of importance. (Those guests might include area senators, governors, state representatives, the mayor, city council members as well as the heads of local companies, universities and non profits.) Notable recent guests include President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Gen. Petraeus, former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and Bono. You will also have opportunities to spend time shadowing writers and editors to watch what they do.
