RealArts@Penn internship at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

SFMOMA: Community Engagement - Content Strategy Division – Internship Summer 2015

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Community Engagement Department is offering an internship with its Open Space online magazine. The internship days are flexible, but a minimum of two days per week are required. Preferred days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Background

Founded in 1935, SFMOMA was the first museum on the West Coast devoted to modern and contemporary art. From the outset, the museum has championed the most innovative and challenging art of its time, and we continue to exhibit and collect work by both modern masters and younger, less-established artists. By embracing the challenge of the new and unexpected, we hope to encourage fresh ways of seeing, thinking, and engaging with the world. SFMOMA's internship program offers insight into the operations of one of the country's leading art museums and allows interns to gain valuable hands-on experience.

The museum is currently closed through 2016, at which time a newly transformed building will open which more than doubles the museum’s exhibition space and adds art-filled free-to-the-public galleries. While our building is closed for construction, SFMOMA is on the go, presenting an array of new art experiences around the Bay Area and beyond. At the same time, our online offerings, including multimedia, social media, and our blog, create ways to explore modern art and connect with the SFMOMA community no matter where you are.

Open Space, SFMOMA’s community-focused digital magazine, is a vibrant forum for critical and personal writings and media about art, visual culture, and issues specific to the Bay Area. We provide a platform for, and a window on to, the life and vitality of the art-engaged communities of this dynamic region, and beyond. Taking its name from an influential Bay Area poetry magazine that appeared in 1964, it is currently home to writings and other works by over 350 guest contributors, 43 columnist alumni, and 5 guest editors. Contributions include conversations between artists, critics, and others; thematic multi-post projects; and behind-the-scenes news related to SFMOMA.
