Focus Features is an Academy Award winning film production and international film distribution company that was created in 2002. This company is is part of NBCUniversal, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. Focus Features has produced a diverse range of prominent feature films, including Milk, It's Kind of a Funny Story, Pride & Prejudice and Brokeback Mountain. More recently, Focus Features has been involved in the making, production, and distribution of Moonrise Kingdom, The Theory of Everything, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Suffragette.

This RealArts@Penn internship will offer incredible hands-on experience working in the creative or business side of films in various stages of production. Interns will have different departments to work in, depending on their interests and experience. Please identify one of the following three areas of interest in your application.

Acquisitions:

Interns will get an inside look at the day-to-day operations of a mini-major film studio, as well as the independent world of filmmaking, and they’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the department’s creative work. Duties include reading scripts and writing coverage, industry & trade research, maintaining director, writer and casting lists, participate in festival prep, possibly covering desks and much more. Candidates must be enthusiastic, discreet, professional and detail-oriented. Previous internship not required but a good attitude a must.

Production and Development:

Interns will get an inside look at the day-to-day operations of a mini-major film studio and have the opportunity to contribute to the department’s creative work. Duties include reading scripts and writing coverage, contributing notes on project drafts, covering desks, as well as helping handle other administrative tasks. Candidates must be enthusiastic, discreet, professional, and detail-oriented. Previous internship experience is not required, but candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Marketing:

Marketing Interns will gain exposure to all aspects of the creative and business sides of the fast-paced, creatively dynamic domestic marketing department. This department is responsible for all creative advertising, media planning and buying, digital outreach, promotional tie-ins, research and company branding initiatives. Interns will learn by working on individual film project brainstorming, reading scripts, positioning documents - what the purpose is and how to create them, and various research projects, among others. Interns are encouraged to participate in the creative process while also assisting in the strategic execution of our film marketing campaigns.
