RealArts@Penn internship with The Philadelphia Inquirer

If you are passionate about current events and expressing your thoughts about them, this is the internship for you.

In this 10-week internship, you will be treated like a member of the Inquirer's editorial board, which is a 6-person staff (including a Pulitzer Prize winner) responsible for the Inquirer’s daily editorial and op-ed pages, the Sunday Currents section, the Opinion web pages on The intern will write blog posts and pull together links to smart ideas from other media. You will also be free to pitch ideas and write unsigned editorials and byline op-ed pieces for the print edition. Additionally, you will participate in editorial board discussions in which topics to write about are identified and cases are made for what position the board should take on an issue. The intern will also sit in on interviews with a wide range of guests who come to make pitches to the board on issues of importance. (Those guests might include area senators, governors, state representatives, the mayor, City Council members, as well as the heads of local companies, universities, and nonprofits.) Notable guests in recent years have included President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Gen. David Petraeus, former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, and Bono. You will also have opportunities to spend time shadowing other Inquirer writers, reporters, and editors to observe what they do.
