Since 1995, the Kelly Writers House has been a center for writers and writing, for experiments and radical production. Members of the Writers House community inspire and contribute to a variety of projects and we are proud to collect and document as much as we can in our web pages. Our website, a kind of virtual scrapbook, includes an eclectic and — we hope — inspiring collection of writing projects, programming calendars and multimedia. Explore!

mission statement

The intrepid band of students, faculty and Penn staff who formed the Writers House in the fall of 1995 were committed to a form of literary communitarianism. The mission statement they wrote—it's really a declaration of academic independence—expresses this idealism.
