the magnetic poetry wall project

co-sponsored by the Kelly Writers House,
the Mayor's Commission on Literacy,
the Laubach Literacy Foundation
and Magnetic Poetry.

The Magnetic Poetry Wall project was a month-long "residency" on College Green at the University of Pennsylvania, in honor of National Poetry Month. The Wall, an 8-by-20-foot accordion-like edifice of metal mesh, was provided by Magnetic Poetry and maintained by the vigilant staff and friends of the Kelly Writers House. Events at the Wall included an Opening Ceremony, hosted by members of the Speakeasy open mic series (4/1); a Celebration of Writers from Philadelphia Adult Literacy Programs (4/17); a Family Literacy Day, sponsored by the Mayor's Commission on Literacy; and a 9-hour Poetry Marathon, featuring Penn poets as well as guests from Temple University, the Painted Bride Art Center, the American Poetry Review, and others (4/29).
