Climate Migration

Fulfills the Writing Requirement

The UN estimates that by 2050, there will be over 1 billion climate refugees worldwide. The consequences of climate change for millions of people already has been displacement, fueled by political and economic instability resulting from declining natural resources like fresh water and arable land. This course will explore the refugee experience of crossing borders in search of integration and well-being while confronting intolerance and stigma in places of resettlement. The course text, Climate Changed: Refugee Border Stories at the Business of Misery, will provide an ethnographic basis for students to explore issues related to human migration and environmental justice in a rapidly warming global landscape.
