WRIT 058: LEGAL STUDIES
Spring 2022 Courses
WRIT 058 301
MW 10:15 AM - 11:45 AM
Washington
Law and Order
Fulfills the Writing Requirement
What is law? Countless scholars across the disciplines have tried unsuccessfully to arrive at a shared definition of this concept. In this writing-intensive course, we will take another approach. Instead we will use anthropologist Lawrence Rosen's Law as Culture: An Invitation to examine what law does, how it works comparatively across different cultures, and how law might shape--and might be shaped by--a culturally-embedded and universal human need for order. Improving the practice of academic writing is an integral aspect of this course, and students will further develop their research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills through writing assignments and exercises, workshopping through peer review, as well as drafting and revision of essays.
