Critical Writing seminars

The writing requirement

All Penn undergraduates are required to complete the writing requirement. To do so, a student must receive a minimum grade of a C- in a critical writing seminar. This grade can only be earned by a combination of student performance in a writing seminar and a separate evaluation of his/her writing portfolio (consisting of work submitted in the writing seminar).

These courses must be taken for a letter grade, not pass/fail, in order to satisfy the writing requirement and they may not fulfill any other College general education requirement.

Please note that policies may differ slightly in each school, so be sure to check with your advisor if you have questions regarding the requirement.
