This is probably common knowledge by now, but in case those few of you interested in education, the Humanities and the Universities missed it, here is the text of Gregory Petsko’s letter to the President of SUNY Albany. Thanks to Jean Baird for bringing it to my attention.

Anyone Who Has A Heart

Filed under: — site admin @ 8:11 am

I was asked to link this, and though I know no more about the matter than is mentioned at the URL, I have empathy for anyone with heart problems. It interests me that half a century ago, in tattered post-war Britain, my own cardiac surgery was free, as have been all medical treatments since. And here we are, half a century later, in a rich University in a rich city in a rich State in the most powerful country, etc. etc…… Well, spread that benign system through the world. Dean Young, safe from socialism.

I recommend Pressed Wafer‘s collection of Tom Pickard’s memoir pieces from a time before self-styled poets fought to be institutionalised. Excellent writing: glimpses of Wing-Commander Bunting: life as it was. Get it from the source:Tom’s book from Pressed Wafer
