Things are slowly improving. I’ll get round to responding to emails and regular post when I can, but a lot of stuff has had to slide by. An unexpected chance to visit old friends in Venice for a few days was welcome, easy and slow enough to manage. Now it’s back to facial chemo and more heart hospital during December and January. I still won’t be online much for a time, but the sea keeps my interest – as early this morning:

Public sector workers are facing a 1% cap on their pay for two years.

The cap will come into force after the current two-year pay freeze ends.

Announcing the change Chancellor George Osborne admitted it was “tough” for public sector workers, but added it was “fair” to private sector workers whose taxes fund the public sector.

With inflation running at more than 5%, the rise is an effective pay cut, but the chancellor said the country could not afford to spend more.

One wonders what the private sector workers’ taxes fund.
