A Gem
The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission was the state’s official counter civil rights agency from 1956–1973. A sort of Southern Stasi it spied, photographed, surveilled every suspect. This archive has almost a thousand photographs of Freedom Rider mug-shots, documents, people of “interest” (including Philip Sanders Lapsansky of the “Spartacist League of the US”). Well worth a browse.
