Lauren Rile Smith to attend writers' conference in Germany

We are pleased to announce that Lauren Rile Smith has won a special scholarship that will pay her way to the Young Writers' Meeting organized by Berlin Festspiele in Berlin, Germany, in late November and early December. Her travel, lodging, board and cost of participating in the meetings will be paid by the Berlin Festspiele, and a translator will bring her work into German. This is the first time that American students have been invited to join with the German and Polish students who typically attend this annual meeting.

Lauren has been an active hub member for several years. She has taken several creative writing workshops. She was a member of the Writers House Fellows seminar last spring. She read at the "Writers House New York" event in SoHo in November 2002 and has read from her documentary writing at the Writers House event, "Eight Philadelphia Stories: Writing in the Documentary Tradition," in December 2000.
