In December 2010, the Writers House was featured on WHYY’s “Creative Campus,” a television program highlighting innovative arts and
culture projects at colleges throughout the Delaware Valley. In this clip, the KWH’s greatest loves – good writing, community, and of
course food – are on display as Hub members mingle over extraordinarily congenial soup at Mind of Winter (January 2009). Watch Al Filreis
tell the story of the Writers House with a picturesque fire roaring over his shoulder, and Lance Wahlert, Tom Devaney, Sam Sharf, Kathy
De Marco, and a roomful of KWH regulars reciting Wallace Stevens’s “The Snowman.” Staffers Jessica Lowenthal, Erin Gautsche, and Michelle
Taransky each make an appearance. Additionally poet Tisa Bryant, who visited the following month, calls us a national literary influence!
Enjoy.

About Mind of Winter
The Writers House beats the cold fronts and wintry mixes with
Mind of Winter
our annual celebration of winter’s comforts: friends, fireplaces, good literature, and, of course,
soup. With bowls of homemade soup prepared by staffers and volunteers, we warm up by our (real!) fireplace
before moving into the Arts Café where Faculty Director
Al Filreis leads a group-reading of Wallace
Steven’s “The Snow Man,” and other Hub members share some of their favorite wintry stories and poems.
