September 15 to October 15, 2001: Online Discussion of contemporary poetry by Penn women

What's going on in poetry today? This Kelly Writers House Alumni Electronic Book Group discussion will feature a sampling of very recent poetry by Penn women. Several such poets will themselves be leading the discussion! Join them and other teachers and writers affiliated with the Kelly Writers House at Penn for a fascinating look at new art in the making. The Writers House was founded in 1995 as an alternative learning and writing community by students, staff, faculty and alumni of Penn—housed in a Victorian cottage at 3805 Locust Walk. Leaders of the discussion will be Tahneer Oksman (CAS '01, co-coordinator of the Writers House open-mic series, Speakeasy), Heather Starr (poet and Writers House Program Coordinator, 1998-2001), and Al Filreis (Class of 1942 Professor of English and Faculty Director of the Writers House). All Penn alumni, and members of Penn families, are invited to participate. To join the group, simply write to whbook@english.upenn.edu. For more about the ongoing Writers House Alumni Book Groups project, see the book groups home page.

October 1, 2001, at 8 PM: Penn women writers featured on a special edition of Live at the Writers House

Approximately once a month, the Writers House airs a one-hour broadcast of poetry, music, and other spoken-word art directly from our living room onto the airwaves at WXPN, 88.5 FM. This special edition of Live will feature women writers and performers who are affiliated with Penn—students, alumni, Penn staff, and others. All are invited to be part of the audience at the taping of the show (on October 1, at 8 PM). For more information about Live write to wh@writing.upenn.edu or call (215) 746-POEM.
