Submission guidelines to Screenwriting and Directing Symposium at the Kelly Writers House (December 2005)

Before submitting a screenplay, please read these guidelines:

Any current Penn student (graduate or undergraduate, full-time or part-time) is eligible to apply. Recent graduates are also eligible.

Your application should include your name; year; a brief description of your screenplay, play or dramatic treatment; a brief explanation as to why you want to work with Mr. Wolk; list of relevant courses (if any); a brief description of how far along the writing is; at least part of the written work.

If you intend to apply, please state your intent as soon as possible by writing to whwolk@writing.upenn.edu. Completed applications are due on or before November 5, 2005 and should be mailed to the above address. If possible, all documents should be in Microsoft Word-friendly format.

The three-day workshop is modeled on the Sundance Institute Labs (with which Andy Wolk has been integrally involved). Each of the four participants will spend 90 minutes with Mr. Wolk discussing his or her work (Monday, December 5 or Tuesday December 6). The four together will participate in a master class on structuring a screenplay and writing dialogue. Participants will also hear their work read aloud by Penn-affiliated actors. Lastly, a two-hour session with Mr. Wolk and the four students will conclude the program (Wednesday, December 7).
