"Stills from the Cinematic Street"

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Ted Adams moved to Philadelphia in 1988 at a time when Philadelphia, a largely working-class industrial city, continued to experience a period of profound urban decline and malaise. Remnants of this mood still co-exist today in a city still undergoing gentrification, a process that in its initial stages creates a temporary, expanded urban field of heterogeneous displacement. It is within this process of disjunction, contradiction, and despair that Adams has situated himself and his work.

During the course of his twenty-two year photographic career, Adams has presented his work at the Arts Bank, Da Vinci Art Alliance, Franklin & Marshall College, Nexus Foundation, and WXPN-FM. In addition, Adams' work has been published in the Philadelphia Independent. Adams is a member of the Philadelphia Conference, the Philadelphia Photographic Society, the Print Center, and the Plastic Club.
