- Introduction
- This webpage is an archive of an online discussion that took
place over the listserv for the Kelly Writers House Planning Committee.
The Planning Committee, affectionately known as the "Hub",
is comprised of 90 or so students, faculty, staff and alumni of the
University of Pennsylvania who together founded the House in 1995 and
whose writerly interests and intellectual curiosity continue to guide
the House. In early May of 2001, Tahneer Oksman, a Hub member, graduating
senior and writer, sent an email asking fellow Hubbers to name their
favorite books. The subsequent flurry of email responses generated a
long list of books and readers' commentary. In the hopes of inspiring
other readers to find and read these books -- and to send us the titles
of some of your own favorites -- The Book List is preserved here, in
the form of the original email discussion,
a list alphabetically by the author, and
a list showing the selections by the Hub
