4. Cowley reported his experiences in five articles for *NR*, XCII (Aug.
25-Oct. 6 1937), pp. 62, 93, 152, 179, 233, and one for *NM*, XXIV
(Aug. 10, 1937), p. 16. Other American delegates to the Writers'
International Association for the Defense of Culture were Anna Louise
Strong, Louis Fischer (already there), and Langston Hughes, who did not
make it. The most painstaking summary of Stalinist repressions
in Spain was Anita Brenner's in *MM*, X (Sept. 1937), pp. 4-27.
