Philip Rieff
Philip Rieff holds the joint title of Benjamin Franklin Professor of
Sociology and University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. In
1957-58 he was a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the
Behavioral Sciences, where he completed this book. A Fulbright professor
at Munich in 1959-60, a 1970 Guggenheim Fellow, and a Visiting Fellow
(1970-77) of All Souls College, Oxford, Professor Rieff has been most
recently the Gauss Lecturer at Princeton, the Terry Lecturer at Yale, and
the Kenan Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at the College of
William and Mary. He is the author of FELLOW TEACHERS and THE TRIUMPH OF
THE THERAPEUTIC, both published by the University of Chicago Press, and
is the editor of the ten-volume COLLECTED PAPERS OF SIGMUND FREUD.
