CONTROLLING MODERN TONE IN EVERYDAY INTERACTION

Dear X:

I am aware that your organization has, over the long run, worked very hard to satisfy our needs. Indeed, for twenty of the twenty-one years since the beginning of our arrangement you have done so. In the past year, however, things have gone sour, and I have a bad taste in my mouth. Agreements have been abrogated. Promises have been unkept. We feel as if your group does not have us on your "first list" of priorities. Last month, during what we considered an important visit, two of our senior people - some of the finest people in our firm - were greeted at your offices by low-level staffers.

Please write me at your earliest convenience, giving me briefly your response to this. Once we have established the tone of the relationship at this point, we can proceed either to work out a new agreement or settle accounts and go separate ways.

With all best wishes,

Y
