Saturday Reading Cooperative
The Saturday Reading Cooperative is a literacy program run by Penn students, in collaboration with Lea Elementary School, at 47th and Locust Streets in West Philadelphia. The program is basically designed to expose kids to print material, as well as target communication and writing skills, and non-violence.
Are you interested in encouraging and strengthening your childrens' interest in reading? Would you like to see your children involved in a program that could increase their learning potential, get them excited about books, and help them work out their individual anxieties about reading? The Kelly Writers House-Lea Elementary School Reading Cooperative at Penn is a literacy-enrichment program which targets second grade students whose caregivers are interested in helping their children maximize their educational potential. Acceptance to the program is based on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a maximum enrollment of 15 students, and is absolutely free. Sessions will be held on Saturdays, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Kelly Writers House, located at 3805 Locust Walk. Contact the Writers House for more information.
THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA-LEA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL READING CO-OPERATIVE SEEKS VOLUNTEER TUTORS. The cooperative--now in its second year--runs a weekly Saturday afternoon reading program for first and second graders at Penn's Writers House.
