EPC was founed by Loss Peqeño Glazier, with Charles Bernstein, at the Poetics Program of SUNY-Buffalo in 1995. Our goal was to make available a wide range of
resources centered on digital and contemporary formally innovative
poetries, new media writing, and literary programming.
The site was the first comprehensive Internet archive of its kind for poetry and poetics. EPC makes extensive resources available through
its Digital Library, E-Poetry and Author libraries.
We also house the archives of the Buffalo Poetics Program from its fouding in 1991 to 2003 and of the Poetics List (1993-2014), the first poetry listserv discussion group. EPC has received support from the SUNY-Buffalo Department of English (through the Poetics Program) and the Department of Media Study. In 2003, EPC began its active collaboration with the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing (CPCW) at the University of Pennsylvania, including its sister site, PennSound. We continue our affilation with Poetics and Media Studies at Buffalo and with CPCW at Penn.
EPC has been reviewed in The Chronicle of Higher
Education
and The Times Literary Supplement, among other publications,
for its breadth of vision, number of resources, and focus on
innovative media poetics in the digital age. It was also the
sponsor of the first-ever digital poetry festival, E-Poetry 2001,
held in Buffalo in April, 2001.
