Intro. by G. Huth; illus. by Sheila Kopaska-Merkel. Many of these poems arise from the world of speculative and fantasy poetry, but avoid the excesses of much of the work in that genre. The best of Kopaska-Merkel's work in that vein shows a concision that pulls toward the other pole of this book, a kind of minimalist expression that betrays an interest in language as a means of expressing the inexpressible: "wrong side of the/ white sky surf/ knife edge over mountains."--John M. Bennett
