These 22 poems are sparse, depressed, unhappy--truly "blue." Even the paper is shaded gray; and the presentation is suitably minimalist -- small poems set upon the plain gray background, with no graphics or fancy typefaces. Each poem is dated, and placed in chronological order. Written between 4/89 and 3/90, Semel's STILL BEATING HEART accurately boils down a year of loneliness and aloneness into a couple dozen poems.--Roger-Kyle Keith
