Short stories, poems, and an essay that I couldn't tell from the short stories except for it's label. Just about all of these focus on aimless, small lives (an unfulfilled farmer, a tradition-shorn young priest). Though invariably sensitive, clear-voiced, and tricked out with authenticizing details, they never go anywhere very far.--Bob Grumman
