Macworld features PennSound
PennSound is online poetry powerhouse
University of Pennyslvania places 8,000 MP3s of poetry readings online
as part of the PennSound project
By Jonny Evans
Poetry buffs have a new online resource -- a huge library of
spoken word poetry hosted by the University of Pennyslvania. PennSound is
an ongoing project, committed to producing new audio recordings and
preserving existing audio archives. It now features an archive of 8,000
(and climbing) rare poetry readings in MP3 format one of the largest
online collections available. The University recently added rare poetry
recordings of Ezra Pound, as well as his previously unknown private
recordings made between 1962-1972. Recent additions to PennSound include
the complete recordings of William Carlos Williams and extensive
collections of recordings by Jackson Mac Low, Susan Howe, Allen Ginsberg
and many others.
