LANGUAGE WEST AND EAST The poets Charles Bernstein (New York), Arkadii Dragomoschenko (St. Petersburg), Hamdan Zakirov (Uzbekistan) and Leevi Lehto will perform at Villa Kivi (Linnunlauluntie 10, Helsinki) on August 2 at 7 pm. Part of the event will be interpreted. Free entrance. A group of remotely congenial, language-oriented poets from different quarters of the globe will perform in early August at Villa Kivi. Charles Bernstein is the the most well-known representative of the verbally experimental Language school, besides being its perhaps most important theoretician – "like a zanier Bob Dylan reading Gilles Deleuze in a Groucho Marx movie." Arkadii Dragomoschenko, from St. Petersburg, is a poetic deconstructivist and an “associate member” of the Language school. Hamdam Zakirov belongs to the postmodern "Fergana” movement in Uzbekistan. At the event, Markku Into, Leevi Lehto, Tommi Nuopponen, Tuomas Nevanlinna and Mikko Rimminen will read translations of Bernstein's poetry, and Leevi Lehto and Fredrik Hertzberg will interview him. The speaker of the event is Jukka Mallinen, who also will interpret Dragomoschenko and Zakirov. |
