Eidophusicon:
Letterpress work by Matthew Neff
November 25, 2007 - December 16, 2007
Fascinated with the spectacle of the eidophusicon -- a pre-cinematic image technology involving a stage, lights, gauzes, coloured glass, and smoke -- Matt Neff created a series of letterpress works that visually experiment with the word itself. Through a layering of plexiglass plates in different gradients, vibrating images emerge from the overlapped letterforms E I D O P H U S I C O N. The opening featured a presentation by Robin McDowell on traditional woodblock printing methods in her project Type-High and their relationship to the more modern technology Neff integrated into his letterpress work.
